Does Hertz Rent Manual Transmission Cars?
For driving enthusiasts, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of control offered by a manual transmission․ The direct connection to the engine, the precise gear changes – it’s a driving experience that many prefer․ But in an era of automatic transmissions dominating the roads, finding a rental car with a stick shift can be challenging․ This article explores whether Hertz, a major car rental company, offers manual transmission vehicles and how to find them․
The Availability of Manual Transmission Cars at Hertz
The short answer is: it’s increasingly rare to find manual transmission vehicles in rental fleets, including Hertz․ The demand for automatic transmissions has steadily risen over the years, leading rental companies to prioritize stocking vehicles with automatic gearboxes․ This is especially true in North America, where automatic transmissions are the norm․
However, depending on your location and specific needs, there might still be a chance․ Here’s a breakdown of factors influencing availability:
- Geographic Location: Europe is generally more likely to have manual transmission cars available compared to North America․ Certain countries, like Germany or Italy, retain a higher percentage of manual transmission vehicles on the road․
- Vehicle Class: Typically, if manual transmissions are available, they’re more likely to be found in smaller, economy-sized vehicles․
- Specific Rental Location: Even within a country, the availability can vary significantly between rental locations․ Airport locations might have fewer manual options than city-center locations․
Strategies for Finding a Manual Transmission Car at Hertz
- Directly Contact Hertz: The best approach is to contact the specific Hertz rental location directly․ Explain your need for a manual transmission vehicle and inquire about their availability․
- Specify Your Preference During Booking: While online booking systems often don’t allow you to explicitly specify manual transmission, some may have a notes or special request section․ Use this to indicate your preference․ However, be prepared for this request not to be guaranteed․
- Consider Specialty Rental Services: Some smaller, independent rental companies specialize in niche vehicles, which might include manual transmission options․ Research local alternatives to Hertz․
- Be Flexible with Your Dates and Location: If possible, being flexible with your travel dates or considering alternative rental locations could increase your chances of finding a manual transmission vehicle․
